Ah, the Hermes Birkin bag. A status symbol for the rich which can go for more than $100,000 per bag. The Birkin bag, which made its debut in 1984, is named for it-girl Jane Birkin. However, Birkin has taken issue with some of Hermes' practices. She recently released the following statement, as reprinted by The Hollywood Reporter:
"Having been alerted to the cruel practices reserved for crocodiles during their slaughter to make Hermes handbags carrying my name...I have asked Hermes to debaptise the Birkin Croco until better practices in line with international norms can be put into place."
Hermes has yet to comment on Birkin's request.
