The producers of The Bachelor threw viewers a curve ball last night when they announced that next season's Bachelorette would be two women! Both Britt and Kaitlyn were chosen by ABC as the next Bachelorette. So what does that mean? Even ABC doesn't know. Here's their press release, as printed in Time:
"ABC's hit romantic reality series, "The Bachelorette," will kick off its 11th the surprises of this season's 'Bachelor' with the biggest one of all: there will be two Bachelorettes: the charming, charismatic beauty, Britt, who captivated Chris Soules and the rest of Bachelor Nation with a memorable hug on that first night at the Bachelor mansion, and Kaitlyn, the gorgeous, fun-loving, warm-herated, but irreverent firecracker who let down her guard only to have her heart crushed. Who will the men prefer? Eventually, only one woman will be left to hand out the final rose."
Already ABC is facing backlash from viewers who are turned off by the thought that The Bachelorette is changing from a show where men compete for a woman, to a show where women have to compete for the right to have men compete for them. Here's the thing, both the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchises have sucked lately. They really need some stunt casting to liven up the ratings. May I submit two suggestions:
1) Bethenny Frankel
She is used to being on reality TV, and whoever she ends up with will need to get used to it to, because that's how she makes a living. Where better to find a man comfortable in front of reality TV cameras than on a reality show?
2) Jennifer Lopez
She is in the spotlight, and needs a man that is comfortable in the spotlight too. Where better than a reality show to find one? She likes younger men; who wouldn't want to watch the hot cast of competitors that ABC would cast for her season?
Just a thought.
