Jon Stewart Leaving The Daily Show
Variety reports that Jon Stewart will be leaving The Daily Show when his contract is up, around the Fall of this year. Stewart has hosted the program for 17 years; he took over from Craig Kilbourn in 1999. Comedy Central is preparing for his departure, and has already started the search for a new host. Who would you like to see take over The Daily Show?
A fresh face.
ReplyDeleteJohn oliver, samantha bee and hubby wld be good. Mb brian williams, lol. He will be sorely missed. Jon that is. Not lie-y lie-erson.
ReplyDeleteJohn Oliver can't leave his show. It's too awesome.
DeleteCheese, i know!!!!!! Only hope is retrofitting his way of doing show to daily show. But that wld not be the daily show then. This is tough!!!!!
DeleteI just hope whoever it is doesn't further blur the line between actual news reporting and entertainment. The Daily Show is fine as comedic commentary on the news, but it's hardly a well-rounded presentation of the news.
ReplyDeleteKaren- jon stewart said same thing a hundred times- we are NOT a news show, we are a comedy show. But people percieved it differently.
Delete+1 @auntlicky. Unlike, say, Faux News...
DeleteHahaha, auntlicky.
DeleteI thought I was the only one who felt this way!
DeleteI know a lot of people love him, but Jon never did it for me. I find him too self-righteous. I prefer Larry Wilmore and hope his show does well.
ReplyDeleteI am loving Larry!!
DeleteIf you find Jon Stewart self righteous how do you feel about Bill Maher.
DeleteI <3 Jon Stewart AND Bill Maher. Sure they get on their high (pun for Bill) horse every now and then but I can easily shine that on. I don't agree with 100% of anything that one person has to say. I enjoy the way they call people out on their bullshit. Plus the fact that they do have republicans on their show to give them a chance to voice their opinion, whether or not they agree.
DeleteI can't imagine the Daily Show with anyone else (except maybe John Oliver or Aasif Mandvi). You'd have to be ungodly fast witted and smart for that job.
His correspondent Jessica Williams is pretty funny, I like her.
ReplyDeleteAnd cue the rumors Chelsea Handler is being considered for the job in 3...2...1...
ReplyDeleteJohn Oliver would have been perfect, but he's off doing his own thing now.
I think Joel McHale would be great at that job, but he's working over at E!, and I don't see them letting him go to a competitor.
Joel is the ONLY decent thing at E!, and I'm sure they know it.
DeleteI would love it if Stewart ran for public office. (I know it won't happen, but a gal can dream.)
ReplyDelete+1 @Snarky. Yessss!!
DeleteI'd vote for him!
DeleteI know Oliver has his own show but put it in this slot. Why does anyone have to take over? Or is Oliver on HBO? Not sure and as much as I love him I've never seen the new show.
ReplyDeleteSamantha Bee just isn't funny to me. Moz Jobrani(sp) would be good.
Sherry, guve sam bee another chance. Shes really hilarious.
DeleteLove me some Jon Stewart. He can be kind of jerkish sometimes but overall I think he's hysterical. John Oliver is awesome, too. Joel McHale would be amazing! I loved him on The Soup.
ReplyDeleteChelsea Handler's got a Netflix show (or is it HBO?) so she probably wouldn't be considered and I thank all of humankind for that.
You know who I'd like to see?? Mike Rowe. He just kills me on Dirty Jobs. Love his sense of humor!!
ReplyDelete@lawn, Mike Rowe - brilliant! His QVC bits were hysterical!
DeleteOliver only had a weekly show. Yes god no not CH.
ReplyDeleteNot trying to be rude, but Jewish men are never named John (with an "h"). It's either Jonathan or Jon. You'll also never meet a Jewish woman named Mary (although I know one named Merrie). The name Christian is also a dead giveaway that the man ain't Jewish. ;-)
ReplyDeleteWith love,
Julie the Jew
Julie- one of my jewish friends was Theresa. There goes that theory, lol
DeleteLol. I had an aunt named Theresa. She scared the hell out of me. Wait, she's still alive. I *have* an aunt named Theresa.
