For the first time, the famed jeweler has featured a same-sex couple in one of their engagement ring ads, reports Pret-a-Reporter. The ad profiles a New York couple. Congratulations both to Tiffany & Company, and to the happy couple!
Tiffany has released its first wedding ring ad featuring a gay couple: http://t.co/249FiDJIlg Bravo!!

Cute couple, but this ad is less a flag for freedom than a cash grab. Lots of gay couples are loaded - two incomes, often no kids. Tiffany's would love to serve them and run their credit cards.
That was my first thought - I typed & deleted one comment. It's interesting that they waited until same sex unions were recognized in multiple states before running this ad. I saw this & thought "pander, much?"
It's marketing for sure, but the flip side is that this is still a thing. I remember when Seal and Heidi got married, there were people STILL making remarks about interracial marriage. Same thing, different day.
Remember that commercial for cereal that got so much flak because they were interracial. So they re-shot it but with lesbians. The tag line was like, "What, you don't like this either?". Hilarious!
Believe me, now that there are gay marriages there are lawyers specializing in their divorces too.
I never notice anything like that, so its lost on me. The cheerio commercial? Never noticed til fuss was made. This print ad, samething, i wldnt hv noticed. So either im very tolorant, or unable to see what right in front of me, lol
The thing that strikes me odd about the ad is that, in general, men don't gush over the wedding rings. They know it excites females and they put themselves out to make them/us happy, but if left just to the males, meh, I don't think they'd care that much.
I must forget there aren't many same-sex couple ads, because I'm always surprised it's a 'thing'. Nice ad, nice box, carry on.
ReplyDeleteIt is a "thing" because ads like this rarely, if at all, appear outside of gay publications.
ReplyDeleteYes, I understand that.

ReplyDeleteOh trust me there's gay guys that get very excited over THAT ring. Not all women are that cranked about fancy rings either.
