Kevin Hart Won't Play Gay
The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Kevin Hart recently for their cover feature. Among the topics discussed? The time that Hart turned down the role in Tropic Thunder for being "too flagrant." When asked if he would ever play a gay character, Hart is quoted as saying, "I can't. Not because I have any ill will or disrespect. It's because I don't think I'm really going to dive into that role 100 percent because of insecurities about myself trying to play that part. Does that make sense?" He added that his stance may change after he has more acting experience under his belt.
I would have a hard time playing straight in a romance scenario. That is why I turned down The Titanic...
ReplyDelete@Derek :)
Deletelol!!!!
DeleteLMAO @Derek!
ReplyDeleteAt least he's honest.
ReplyDeletePretty much what I would expect from a homophobic and insecure Cosby defender
ReplyDeleteI like Kevin Hart. Hadn't heard he defended Cosby. Not good!
DeleteAnyone watching Empire? It's really good I think. Anyway the gay son confronts his father about the black community's issue with homosexuality. That's probably part of it as well but he didn't want to say. His choice though.
ReplyDeleteYes! I LOVE it. Courtney Love and Naomi Campbell will be staring in a few episodes soon as well---cant wait. It is written by Lee Daniels. My only complaint is the straight rapper son (the one that is always getting drunk with his buddies) can not act!
DeleteCookie is my idol lol
DeleteEmpire is my jam. Best show ever!!! I am dying for Courtney Love and Naomi Campbell. Cookie is fabulous. I find it hard to believe that she was in jail for 17 years and is this well adjusted to life on the outside, but I'm trying to just keep the mindset that, "It's only a tv show." My husband gives me this lecture all the time.
Deleteand it is nice to see Gabby (Precious) getting a good gig---her character cracks me up...
DeleteI need to catch up, I've got it DVR'd, but haven't watched yet. It looks so good.
Deletelove empire too thats my jam as well
Deleteis gabby lucias daughter illegitimately or just his assistant. i thought she's his daughter??
at least kevins honest... no one has to play gay if they don't want too
I didn't think Precious was his daughter, but don't quote me.
DeleteI agree about Kevin Hart's honesty. It's not like he's a Meryl Streep-caliber ac-TOR. I live for Real Husbands of Hollywood, but he's just himself. I saw him in the Chris Rock movie Top Five. He made me laugh, but again he was kinda just Kevin Hart. Ditto for the About Last Night remake. (I watched that shit when my husband was away for two weeks for work.Don't judge.)
DEREK! Hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteI hold nothing against actors who refuse to "play gay". Sexuality is a really private thing, and he makes a really good point: if he's uncomfortable pretending to be gay, he couldn't throw himself into the role, and therefore wouldn't take it. That's not homophobia, it's understanding your limitations.
Now, the Tropic Thunder role, I'm glad Kevin turned it down because he clearly didn't get the joke.
I agree with Seven. I think an actor should be able to turn down any role if they don't feel they can do it justice. I wouldn't be comfortable playing someone with extreme political views, for example.
ReplyDeleteProtest too much perhaps ?
ReplyDeleteObviously there are far too many actors in Hollywood who DON'T realize the limits of their acting capabilities. Anyone remember when Will Smith made a big deal about not wanting to kiss Michael Anthony-Hall in 7 Degrees of Separation? He seemed to think if you did something like that in a movie, it "made you gay". Will doesn't seem to understand the concept of ACTING!
ReplyDeleteIt was Denzel who told Will to not be kissing any man onscreen. Ironically, this was the same year Denzel co-starred in Philadelphia, a movie about gay tolerance.
DeleteI think actors who are very secure in their sexuality have no issue in it, heck Sean Penn played a gay character. I just remember thinking that with both the British and American series Queer as Folk, I was surprised at who was gay in real life and who wasn't, now that takes some brave chops and some good acting chops to at least fool a woman.....
ReplyDeleteBesides it is a challenge and many actors crave challenge
DeleteAgree Tina.
