Dimples, America's first karaoke bar, will be closing in January, according to LAist. The bar, which opened in 1982, has played host to a variety of celebrities from A list to D list over the years. Dimples also appeared on Bar Rescue in 2013. Blake Shelton took his team to Dimples on Season 1 of The Voice to give them performance practice (Shelton sang Play That Funky Music White Boy), Kato Kaelin used to be a regular, and Dennis Haskins aka Mr. Belding can still be found there most weekends (although owner Sal Ferraro usually introduces him as Mr. Belvedere on stage). If you ask nicely, Haskins will even sign his Karaoke CD for you!
If you're in the LA area before the bar closes in mid-January and is replaced by a Whole Foods, stop by for a drink. You never know who you'll bump into! The rest of the week will feature blinds about some of the more infamous guests to pass through Dimples. For now, enjoy Katy Perry and Robert Pattinson singing karaoke at Dimples circa 2008
Katy sounds awful!!!
ReplyDeleteWow Katy DOES sound awful. She also reminds me of myself when I'm drunk.
ReplyDeleteThey look like any two friends out having fun and drinking, Rob gets a pass on his singing because he's not a singer.
I need a Mr Belding cd!!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't karaoke supposed to be awful and funny? I thought it was perfect!
ReplyDeleteDamn, I do better Scary-aoke than that. Key to being good is KNOW they song! I think Pattinson is actually better than Katy.
ReplyDeleteI actually remember seeing the Dimples episode of Bar Rescue. And if it's the right bar I'm thinking of, the owner was a sexist pig. He was incredibly inappropriate with the female patrons, and Jon Taffer (pretty sure he's the Bar Rescue guy), got rightfully pissed off and called Sal's dickish behavior out.
