Kathy Griffin Named New Fashion Police Host

TMZ exclusively reports that Kathy Griffin has been tapped to replace Joan Rivers on E!'s Fashion Police. From the statement, it appears that Melissa Rivers will now appear in front of the camera; it is unknown whether or not George Kotsiopoulos will remain on the show. The format will also change; instead of having a weekly show, Fashion Police will only air awards show and special event themed episodes. Congratulations, Kathy!

  1. Very very tacky and inappropriate of her to swoop in and capitalize on Joan's death. But I guess Melissa approves.

    1. Gina, thats the business part of show business. And melissa has to act fast or show will be canceled and that money maker will dry up.

  2. What's this about George? I love him! I'd rather see him than Kelly O.

  3. Never watched it but since I cannot stand Kathy, I guess it's not a loss on either side :)
What's that guy's name who hits dog whistle pitch while talking fashion on the red carpet at awards shows with Kelly O?

    1. She has Blake Lively "talking with marbles in my mouth" voice. While I don't find her funny at all, I can't even watch her without having to clear my throat at least 3 times.
      Sympathy clear, I guess. :)

  6. Around the time when Joan Rivers was still alive, didn't someone say that she herself would've approved of Kathy?

    Good luck!

  7. Now all Kathy needs is a stylist pronto! At least it is not Nene Leakes.

  8. Joan has left some awfully big shoes to fill, and I can't imagine the show without her.

  10. I think Joan Rivers would be pleased. She adored Kathy Griffin. Happy to hear the format is changing. I mean...let's be honest, no one can truly ever replace Joan Rivers.

  11. Didn't Entern have an item where he said that E! confirmed she was NOT going to be the host? I seem to remember a joke about her stalking Ryan Seacrest to get it...

  12. I saw the documentary about joan rivers, and melissa came off as very sweet and low key. I know she was a maniac on apprentence, but mb that was show business. Anyhow in doc joan said everyone who worked gor her had their kids in private school and college on her dime. She said this very matter of factly, not like im so great. I wonder if that continued after her death. I think prob did. Another tjing that struck me was she behaved and ran her career like she was trying to make rent on 5 th floor walkup every month. She wld take ANY job, any appearance, no matter how crummy or low paying, all while she income of like 40 million a year!!!!!! She completely ignored that. She liked life of hardscrabble comic i guess.

    1. Yes auntliddy, I know what you mean -- she was one of the most hardworking ladies in show business. Joan Rivers was crass and obnoxious but had a heart of gold. Melissa is very low-key compared to her mom....they were complete opposites in style and personality but they love they shared for each other and Melissa's son was unlimited. I loved that Joan said everything everyone else thought but was too afraid to say. Yes, she went over the line sometimes, but so what....w/ every line she crossed, she also helped someone w/ money, job, life, etc. Wish more wealthy people were like her...but unfortunately, it's the total opposite. Seems the more money/millions people make, the more greedy and inhumane they become.

    2. I need to see this documentary. I loved Joan. She overstepped a few times, but how far is too far means different things to different people. I was shocked when I saw Joan's NYC apartment. I didn't realize she was THAT rich. She never came across that way. She worked so hard. I think she never wanted to go back to the days when Johnny Carson blackballed her and also didn't Edgar mismanage some money? I thought she wrote in one of her books that she went through a tough time financially.

I'm glad Kathy got the job and also to hear about the change in format.

    3. If it's the Joan documentary I'm thinking of, it made me see her in an even more positive light (always have liked her). In it, there is a scene where Joan confronts a heckler in the audience of one of her shows. The way she verbally bitch slapped him was EPIC. A must see!

  13. @auntliddy : I saw that Joan doc too

It was really good. She busted her ass and never turned down a job

I was amazed at her work ethic

Kathy has a similar approach to comedy as Joan and I think Joan would be comfortable with her in that position

  14. The doc on Joan Rivers was fascinating.

I don't know how I feel about this re: Kathy Griffin. I know the writing was on the wall, but I was hoping they would go with a snarky gay to be the host. Like Mario Cantone. He could just sit in the chair and say, "Hates it" with his eyeroll and I would be delightfully entertained. Kathy G has never been my cup of tea. But, I'll go into it with an open mind, I suppose.

Thank you for this site, Outtie. I love how you report things.

Melissa on the other hand... :/

  17. I would've preferred Stacy and Clinton but if Melissa approves then I'm fine with it.

  18. Yeah, its a good documentary... I Personally,I cant watch Kathy Griffin- I just don't find her funny or entertaining/I'm not a hater of her she's done well in a really tough industry// I DO think Mario Cantone would be good though
