Politically Incorrect 1/21/17

There are times when something big happens politically, and right now is one of them. Most people deal with it in one of two ways: by talking it through and processing their feelings, or by avoiding all things political. That split is also reflected in our Anarchists.

So in deference to those who wish to stay away from all things political, Reader's Choice and Politically Incorrect will go up simultaneously for the next week as people process this time of transition.

Let's do our best to keep Reader's Choice free of political talk for those who wish to avoid it, and take advantage of Politically Incorrect for those who want to talk it out.

XOXO,
Outtie

Charlotte McKinney Talks the Single Life

Charlotte McKinney recently sat down for an interview with E! News, where she talked about the single life. Here's what she had to say:

"I am so, so single right now. It's so funny. I'm like, even in hair and makeup, I'm like, 'I am so single, it's crazy.' Usually I have some little things here and there. Starting this year off, I've been really focused on work. But I'm really out there. I'm open, I'm here!"

On what she's looking for in a man:
"A lot of people know, for me, my biggest thing is humor. A funny guy and that doesn't take themselves too serious and who doesn't talk about themselves all day. That's what I find in L.A.—that every guy...so there's a lot of guys who just, yeah, just overdo it on themselves."

Shia LaBeouf is At Peak Artistic Creativity

The Hollywood Reporter announces that Shia LaBeouf has unveiled his newest art project. At 9am ET on Friday, LaBeouf revealed his installation at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. There is a camera set up in front of a sign that reads "He Will Not Divide Us," and the came will remain on 24/7 and will livestream continuously for the next four years, or until Trump leaves office. Here is the project's official announcement:

"Commencing at 9am on January 20, 2017, the day of the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, the public is invited to deliver the words 'HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US' into a camera mounted on a wall outside the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, repeating the phrase as many times, and for as long as they wish. In this way, the mantra 'HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US' acts as a show of resistance or insistence, opposition or optimism, guided by the spirit of each individual participant and the community."

Just after it launched, Jaden Smith stopped by, which makes him an official inductee into the Art Trifecta of Artists who Art, which is now made up of Shia LaBeouf, James Franco, and Jaden Smith.

Blind Gossip Blind Item - She Wanted To Bail On the People

The People’s Choice Awards is a different kind of show because the winners know who they are ahead of time… and the losers usually don’t even bother showing up.

This performer was honored as a winner last night.

She seemed to be in an impatient mood, though.

"She showed up because she knew she was going to win, but she wasn’t thrilled about having to spend her whole night there. Her reps actually asked the producers if they could move her award to the beginning of the show, so she could pick up her trophy, make her speech, and then bail for the rest of the show!"

Way to go all out for your fans, girl!

Not Blake Lively (who is always happy to be at an awards show).

Popbitch Blind Item - Unbuckling Orion's Belt

Which former men’s magazine cover star had a bit of an interest in astronomy and The Sky at Night, so leapt at the chance to meet its elderly presenter, Sir Patrick Moore? The girl in question hit it off so well with the monocled old stargazer that all the talk of Andromeda, Hubble and Orion’s Belt soon led to Sir Patrick unbuckling his own belt – and receiving a relaxing blowjob from the young fan.

Norman Lear on Fake News

Norman Lear recently penned a guest essay for The Hollywood Reporter on the rise of fake news. Here in an excerpt:

"'Fake news' sounds like the satire of The Onion or the brilliant performance art of Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. Everyone is in on the joke, and that kind of 'fake news' can bring us to new perspectives and a greater understanding of ourselves and our world. But the kind of malicious or purely mercenary false news stories we've seen in recent months is something else entirely: hoaxes designed to attract viewers that grievously misled voters in this critical election.

...Why do people fall for this stuff? It seems to have something to do with the way our social media networks are constructed. We're more likely to pay attention to the final source of an article — the person who calls it to our attention — than to the original source. With sites like Facebook feeding us self-selected and self-reinforcing media, we begin to have a real problem.

That's especially true given the outsized megaphones wielded by celebrities and politicians, who can reach millions of people with a single blog post or tweet. If they, like our incoming president, the ultimate celebrity-politician, don't give a damn about the credibility of the source they're retweeting, truth doesn't stand a chance.

...It's hard to know how to deal with the prevalence of misinformation in a society in which we revere freedom of expression. There are a lot of smart people working on technical ways for companies such as Google and Facebook to identify sites that peddle hoax news and warn readers about them — and deny them ad revenue. But there is a bigger civic challenge facing all of us.

A recent study by researchers at Stanford University evaluated the ability of middle school, high school and college students to distinguish between actual news, bogus news and advertising in the media they consume online. The result: 'bleak.' It is clear this problem is not restricted to the young, and we join the researchers in their worry that democracy itself is 'threatened by the ease at which disinformation about civic issues is allowed to spread and flourish.'..."

The Gossip Life Blind Item - No Promotional Work

When an actor or actress signs up for a movie role, they're usually expected to do as much shameless promotional work as the studio demands.

'It's a mutually beneficial agreement,' says my source in marketing at a major Hollywood studio. 'It's been proven a correlation exists between promotion and box office receipts. Listen, I understand when a talent doesn't want to do everything, but they should be agreeable to most things. Not [name omitted]. That fucker didn't wanna do anything and made it clear in every meeting and every email.'

So, tell me, Gossipers:

Who is our lazy bum?

Lily Tomlin Talks Love

Lily Tomlin recently sat down for an interview with People, where she talked about her 45-year-long relationship with Jane Wagner (the couple tied the knot on December 31st, 2013). Here's what she had to say:

On the secret to their relationship:
"[A mutual] admiration and respect."

On getting married:
“We went in Van Nuys because if anyone should see us, we didn’t want them to write about us. There were all kinds of young kids there getting married...It was sweet. We didn’t have any rings, so I went into our jewelry and was digging out rings. I said, ‘We have to have some kind of rings!’ ”

Kesha Still Isn't Free

Kesha recently sat down for an interview with Viceland's music show Noisey, where she talked about the status of her career. Here's what she had to say, as reprinted by The Hollywood Reporter:

"When you work really hard at something, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating. I worked my ass off for a lot of years to be able to do it: I sang backup vocals, and the first couple songs I was on, I didn't give a fuck, because I just had this one vision. Once you earn that and make that happen, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating. It is definitely a mind fuck."

On her love of country music:
"I've always loved country music and listened to it a lot growing up, so now I'm like kind of allowing myself to just tap into like my music roots a little more recently. Here, it really is the utmost importance to tell the story, and that's really what Nashville songwriting is about — the song is the most important thing...I think I am just like finding my voice in the world, and so the past three years has been me taking my center and myself back and my voice."

When told by the interviewer that she's "got pipes":
"That's the thing that really makes me mad is I know I do. I just want people to see that side of me."

I know what you're thinking - it must be a really slow news day if we're talking about the Hadid brother and Justin Bieber's ex. And you're right! Us Weekly reports that Anwar Hadid, 17, aspiring model and brother of Gigi and Bella Hadid, is dating Nicola Peltz, an actress most famous for dating Justin Bieber. A source says of the pair, "They are dating. It's a fairly ew relationship, but they are really good friend and part of the same group of friends." That group also includes Sofia Richie. Cuba Gooding Jr Getting Divorced

TMZ reports that Cuba Gooding Jr has filed for divorce from wife of 22 years, Sara Gooding. Sara had filed for a legal separation back in 2014; Cuba has finally gotten around to responding to that filing by pulling the plug on the marriage. Cuba is asking for joint legal and physical custody of their daughter, 10, and is not opposed to giving Sara spousal support. Cuba also wants to make sure all of the money that he made since Sara filed for separation stays his.

Miguel Ferrer Has Died

Actor Miguel Ferrer has passed away at the age of 61 after a battle with throat cancer. Ferrer was the son of Academy Award-winning actor José Ferrer and singer Rosemary Clooney. Ferrer appeared in a variety of TV shows, including Twin Peaks and NCIS: Los Angeles, and many movies including RoboCop. Ferrer is survived by his wife Lori, sons Lukas and Rafi, and brother Rafael. Read his full obituary at The Hollywood Reporter.

His cousin George Clooney released the following statement: "Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer. But not lost to his family. Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you, Miguel. We always will."

Blind Gossip Blind Item - The Electronics Thief

This well-known and prolific film actress is based on the West Coast. She had a personal assistant to whom she entrusted everything: house keys, alarm codes, her laptop, her social media accounts, her cloud account, and all of her electronic devices.

The two got into some sort of argument. The actress fired the assistant.

"[The Actress] doesn’t know that [the assistant] made copies of EVERYTHING before leaving: documents, photos, emails, texts, etc. She’s in for a rude awakening."

No one knows what the assistant is going to do with it. Publish it? Hold it for ransom? Sell it to a third party? Supposedly there is some interesting blackmail material in there, including racy photos… and some inappropriate electronic exchanges with a married actor with whom she worked!

Lauren Conrad Talks Pregnancy

Lauren Conrad recently took to her blog to write up four things to never say to a pregnant woman. Here are her rules:

Rule No. 1: Do not ask a married couple when they are going to have kids.

Yes, a lot of married couples do start trying to get pregnant relatively soon after they tie the knot. But that is definitely not always the case—and it’s never a fair assumption to make. Keep in mind that the decision to have children (both if and when), is an extremely personal one...

Rule No. 2: Never ask when someone is due unless you are 100 percent certain they are expecting.

I’ve heard from my several of my friends that this is a question they have been asked in the first few months postpartum when they haven’t quite lost the baby weight and still have a little “bump.” ...So unless they already mentioned that they are expecting, it’s much better to hold your tongue.

Rule No. 3: Refrain from commenting on the size of someone’s bump.

I myself have been guilty of this one. While seeing a friend’s bump grow can be really exciting, you probably don’t comment on the size or shape of any other part of a woman’s body—and it’s not a good idea to comment on her bump either! ...

Rule No. 4: Don’t touch the belly without asking!

This one might seem like a no-brainer, but every mama I know has some story about a stranger touching her pregnant belly...No matter what your relationship to the mama-to-be is, keep in mind that it’s much more pleasant to have someone politely ask if it is OK before groping your midsection.

Paul McCartney Wants HIs Music Back

The Hollywood Reporter announces that Paul McCartney is suing Sony to get his copyright ownership share back to a bunch of Beatles song. These are the rights that Michael Jackson scooped up out from under McCartney, including the rights to Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Let it Be. Jackson's estate sold his remaining rights to the songs to Sony. Part of the lawsuit reads as follows: "For years following service of the first Termination Notices, Defendants gave no indication to Paul McCartney that they contested the efficacy of Paul McCartney’s Termination Notices. Defendants’ affiliates did, however, oppose at least one other artist’s terminations of transfers under the terms of the 1976 Copyright Act."

Sony released the following statement:
"Sony/ATV has the highest respect for Sir Paul McCartney with whom we have enjoyed a long and mutually rewarding relationship with respect to the treasured Lennon & McCartney song catalog. We have collaborated closely with both Sir Paul and the late John Lennon’s Estate for decades to protect, preserve and promote the catalog’s long-term value. We are disappointed that they have filed this lawsuit which we believe is both unnecessary and premature.”

Russell Brand on Fatherhood

Russell Brand recently spoke to ITV News about fatherhood after welcoming daughter Mabel with fiancée Laura Gallacher back in November. Here's what he had to say, as reprinted by E! News:

"It's the most wonderful thing, a wonderful experience...I think it's to have something outside of yourself that's more important than you, other than West Ham United."

On whether or not he looks at the world in a different way now:
"In some ways, I do."

Reese Witherspoon Talks More Legally Blonde

Reese Witherspoon recently spoke to E! News about the prospect of another Legally Blonde movie. Here's what she had to say:

"We've thought about it. I need somebody really clever to come up with a great idea and we'll do it. I do think it's a good time to do it. I think women need that kind of positivity right now."

Her advice for the next four years:
"It's a great privilege to be a woman in America. We have many rights and freedoms that a lot of women don't have all over the world. I try to celebrate that. I try to live that to its utmost, particularly the freedom of speech, being able to express myself, create shows like this to show how important women are in our world. That's what I try to focus on."

Ed "Sharter" Sheeran Wants to Impregnate You

Ed "Sharter" Sheeran recently sat down for an interview with Beats 1/Apple Music, where he talked about the underground tunnel that leads from his house to his own pub. Here's what else he had to say, as reprinted by E! News:

"The problem with my house at the moment is, if I have a house party, it's all in the house, and if I have kids, I want to still have mates around and have beers. So it's good to have them separate."

On whether or not he is excited to be a father one day:

"Massively. I wanted to be a dad, like, last year. I'm ready, let's go—tour bus babies, little fat, chubby babies that just walk around."

On taking a break after having kids:
"When they hit 4 or 5 [years old] and start primary school, I'm just out. I think [Bruce] Springsteen took an extended break when his kids went to school. I think that's going to be me. I think I just want to set up a little studio in the countryside—which I have done—and just have new artists come down, write songs with them, produce with people."

On girlfriend Cherry Seaborn:
"This has been the first time I've actually had the time to fall in love properly. So the catalyst of taking a year off was also the fact that my partner quit her job in New York—which she's now got back in London, which is really cool—but we were just basically like, let's quit our jobs and have a year of forming a tight bond. So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together.

I've probably had three days apart from her in the last year...but we're very, very strong. I've never been happier. I've never been more comfortable. I've never been more inspired. I feel like everything's fallen into place, and it's fallen into place because I've given it the time to fall into place."

TV Show Roundup 1/19/17

Programming Note:
Season 2 of American Crime Story has yet to air on FX. It's about Katrina, so it doesn't seem particularly exciting. It has already been announced that Season 3 will be about Gianni Versace, and now E! News reports that Season 4 will be about Monica Lewinsky. The source material for that season will be Jeffrey Toobin's book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President. Toobin's OJ book was the source material for season 1 of American Crime Story: The People V OJ Simpson.

Renewals:
People reports that NBC has renewed This Is Us for two more seasons.

It was already written up here when Leslie Jordan reported it, but now NBC has officially announced that Will & Grace will return for 10 new episodes, reports E! News.

Harvard's Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year 2017 is...

People reports that Harvard has selected Octavia Spencer has their Hasty Pudding Woman of the Year for 2017. Their press release reads as follows: "We could not be more excited to offer Ms Spencer our Woman of the Year award. We are humbled by her talent and are so honored that our little Pudding pot will be sitting alongside Ms Spencer's Oscar and Golden Globe on her mantle. Everyone here is really looking forward to meeting her – as long as she doesn’t prove as difficult as her character on 30 Rock!"

Alanis Morisette's Former Business Manager Cops a Plea After Embezzlement

TMZ reports that Alanis Morissette's former business manager Jonathan Schwartz has pled guilty to 2 felonies after embezzling $4.8 million from Morissette. Ironically, he refuses to plead guilty to embezzlement - only wire fraud and filing a false tax return. Morissette has already sued Schwartz over the embezzlement; she reached a settlement with him in July. As for the felonies, Schwartz is facing up to 23 years in federal prison.
